We have a sad driving story to tell.  For weeks, all along the highway we've seen signs, "Deep Excavations" that are set up along where they've dug huge ditches right beside the thousands of tires that move along the highways every day.  We've often remarked on how dangerous this is.

And sure enough on June 17 we were driving along a narrow road with deep excavations on each side and our front tire slipped off the road and our front bumper ended up on the road.  There were about twelve people who helped by trying to lift it back onto the road but the tire was in a narrow channel and was caught tightly.  Eventually a Meralco truck (the local electricity company) which was nearby  put a chain on the back of our car and pulled it back onto the road.  They are our heroes!

These are the results of the incident:

One of the elders who was with us and is a Filipino reported the incident to our mission president with his weekly report.  This is how he described it:

"last week we had a home teaching together with the couple Elder Rodger and Sister Rodger we visited three Families after we visit them there's some thing happened we stock at the street be cause the wheel was shot in the hole fortunately many people help us to get out from the stock."

This is where our tire was stuck.

And these are closeups of the hole.
